Varun Dhawan has officially joined Sunny Deol in the cast of ‘Border 2’,sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border.The film set for release on January 23, 2026.
Actor Varun Dhawan will be joining actor Sunny Deol in Bollywood war drama Border 2 as a ‘fauji (soldier)’. The sequel to the 1997 hit film is fronted by Sunny Deol. The announcement was made by Sunny on social media as he posted a clip featuring Varun’s voice in the background.
“Dushman ki har goli se Jai Hind bol kar takrata hoon, jab dharti maa bulati hai, sab chhod kar aata hoon,” he says in the video. The post further revealed that the film is scheduled for release during the Republic Day weekend, January 23, 2026. Speculations were rife for a while about Varun joining the film, produced by JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. This is going to be the first war-drama of the Varun’s career.
Varun Dhawan has also written a note expressing his excitement for the project. He said, “I was just a kid in class four when I went to Chandan cinema and saw Border. And it made such a big impact. I still remember the sense of national pride we all felt in the hall. I began looking up to our armed forces and to this day, I salute how they protect us and keep us safe be it on our borders or during natural calamities.”
Varun Dhawan added, “J P Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of my most favourite movies to this day. To play a part in Border 2 produced by J P sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career.” For Sunny Deol, he said, “And I get to work with Sunny [Deol] Paaji my hero makes it all the more special. I look forward to bring a valiant jawaan‘s story to the screen in what promises to be India’s biggest war film. I seek your good wishes. Jai Hind.”
‘Border 2’ will be directed by Anurag Singh, who has previously helmed ‘Kesari’, ‘Punjab 1984’, ‘Jatt & Juliet’ and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’, among others. The film was announced on June 13, 2024, marking 27 years of ‘Border’. It has been declared “India’s biggest war film” by the makers.
Meanwhile, Varun was recently seen in a cameo in ‘Stree 2’. The actor has got ‘Bhediya 2’, ‘Baby John’ and an untitled film directed by his father, David Dhawan.
Cast of ‘Border 2’
The “Border 2” team has officially confirmed Varun Dhawan and Sunny Deol as part of the cast. Speculation about the rest of the cast continues, with rumors suggesting that Ayushmann Khurrana and Diljit Dosanjh may also join the ensemble. However, director Binnoy Gandhi has indicated that the complete star cast will be announced soon. He mentioned that within a month’s time, the confirmed cast, in their character styles, will be introduced to the media at a grand event.
