The Darren Star series features Emily more settled into her expat life in France. But her professional and personal lives are still a mess. Read our review of the first part of the fourth season now streaming on Netflix.
Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1: Plot
Emily in Paris season 4 starts with Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) dealing with her recent split from Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). The two had starred together in a commercial for AMI—a hot air balloon ad where they kiss. Though Emily and Alfie are no longer together, AMI has put up their ad with their faces all over the city—which is causing problems for Alfie.
Emily does her best to handle the crisis when JVMA lures Julien (Samuel Arnold) away. This upsets Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), who now has to run things with Emily and Luc (Bruno Gouery). At the same time, Mindy (Ashley Park) gets ready for her Eurovision appearance but lacks funds. She doesn’t want to work gigs or “sell feet pics,” so she asks her wealthy boyfriend Nicolas (Paul Forman) to help her out.
Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1: Writing and Direction
This season, the show and creator Darren Star put its female characters through some relationship drama. Emily’s boss Slyvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) at marketing agency Agence Grateau and bestie Mindy (Ashley Park) both have some tough choices to make with their significant others. For Emily, if she wants Gabriel in her life, she must also deal with his baby mama drama. The costumes and scenery are still gorgeous as ever; the masquerade ball in episode 3 is especially lovely.
Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1: Performances
By this fourth season, all of the actors have settled nicely into their roles. Collins’ Emily has evolved much from her arrival in Paris; the actress has taken the wide-eyed American in Paris stereotype and made it her own. Leroy-Beaulieu adds more depth to her performance as she struggles with doing what is right, against her own personal cost. Park’s Mindy is the supportive best friend everyone needs and hopefully in the second half, she gets to have her own dreams come true. Laviscount’s Alfie takes a backseat as Bravo’s Gabriel has the winning edge once again.
This storyline resolution leaves viewers desperate for more revelations about what might happen next. Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 2 will come out on September 12th, 2024 indicating continuing drama blended with romance.
