“Kalki 2898 AD” is currently smashing box office records. The epic film, featuring Telugu superstar Prabhas, Bollywood icons Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan, and Tamil legend Kamal Haasan, has grossed over Rs 415 crore worldwide in just three days. According to box-office tracking portal Sacnilk.com, the Nag Ashwin directorial earned an impressive Rs 302 crore within its first three days of release.
“Kalki 2898 AD” made history by becoming the third biggest opener in Indian cinema, earning a massive Rs 191 crore globally on its opening day. It has surpassed the global opening records of “KGF 2” (Rs 159 crore), “Salaar” (Rs 158 crore), “Leo” (Rs 142.75 crore), “Saaho” (Rs 130 crore), and “Jawan” (Rs 129 crore). “RRR” remains the highest Indian opener with Rs 223 crore, followed by “Baahubali 2” with over Rs 217 crore on its opening day.
Originally known as Project K, “Kalki 2898 AD” is one of Indian cinema’s most expensive films, with a budget reportedly around ₹600 crore. Directed by Nag Ashwin, this post-apocalyptic film, set in the year 2898 AD, draws inspiration from Hindu scriptures.
The film marks the Telugu debut of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. Prabhas stars as Bhairava, a cheerful bounty hunter, while Bachchan Sr. and Deepika play the roles of Immortal Ashwatthama and Sumathi, respectively. Prabhas’s character is also said to be a reincarnation of Karna.
