Netflix’s critically acclaimed short film Anuja, directed by Adam J. Graves, has earned a prestigious nomination for Best Live Action Short at the 97th Academy Awards. This achievement represents a major milestone for both director Adam J. Graves and producer Suchitra Mattai, as they celebrate their first-ever Oscar nominations.

Anuja Joins the Race for Oscar Glory

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott.

In the highly competitive Best Live Action Short Film category, Anuja stands out as one of the five nominees, selected from a pool of 180 qualifying films. The short film is competing against Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent for the coveted trophy.

This marks Guneet Monga’s third Oscar nomination. Her previous projects, The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence, both won Oscars, earning global recognition for Indian cinema.

The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien in his debut as the show’s emcee, will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2, 2025.

Filled with excitement and pride, Priyanka Chopra took to Instagram to give a shoutout to Anuja following its Oscar nomination. Sharing a poster and a clip from the film, she expressed her joy, saying, “Yaaaay! ‘Anuja’ is heading to the 2025 Oscars as a nominee for Best Live Action Short Film! Incredible! Thank you to @theacademy for the amazing honour.”

She went on to congratulate director Adam J.
