Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’ will clash with Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ on October 10

Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’ and Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ will clash at the box office on October 10. The makers of ‘Vettaiyan’ announced the release date today, August 19.


Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’, directed by TJ Gnanavel, will hit theatres on October 10, 2024. The film will release in four languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The film will clash with Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ which is set to release on October 10. It will be an epic clash as ‘Kanguva’ and ‘Vettaiyan’ are two of the most anticipated films from Tamil cinema in 2024.

Vettaiyan release date confirmed

Announcing the release date, the production house wrote, “Target locked VETTAIYAN is set to hunt in cinemas worldwide from OCTOBER 10th, 2024! Superstar as Supercop! Releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi & Kannada! (sic).”

Vettaiyan, which is Rajinikanth’s 170th film, features an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan. The film is said to be based on true incident,Rajinikanth will be playing muslim police officer. The movie is backed by Lyca Productions, and and music will be done by Anirudh Ravichander.

Clash with ‘Kanguva’

Earlier, the makers of Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ announced that the film will release in theatres on October 10. Producer KE Gnanavel Raja claimed that ‘Vettaiyan’ will be postponed and hence they zeroed in on October 10 as the release date. However, the makers of ‘Vettaiyan’ have also fixed October 10 as the release date. It is to be seen if ‘Kanguva’ will get postponed.

Interestingly, while Kanguva and Vettaiyan will primarily compete for screens in the Tamil market, they’ll have another competitor in the pan-India market. Vasan Bala’s Bollywood escape drama Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, will also release in the same week on October 11. It’s backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
