Rashmika Mandanna takes on the role of Maratha queen Yesubai in the highly anticipated historical drama Chhaava, starring alongside Vicky Kaushal. Sharing her excitement, Rashmika expressed her joy about the role and playfully remarked that she now feels ready to retire.
The trailer of the film was released on January 22 at Mumbai’s iconic Plaza Theatre in a grand event.The whole cast and crew showed up to the spectacular trailer release event. The trailer showcases Vicky in the majestic role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who valiantly battles to protect his land with unwavering courage and bravery. The trailer is brutal, bloody, and intensely gripping, hinting at what the audience can expect in the film.
Talking about how the role came her way, she said , Rashmika shared, “I remember being absolutely shocked how did Laxman sir even think of giving me a role like this to play? I just surrendered… you don’t have a reference. It’s a story. You know their story and they are such majestical, impactful characters and personalities. How do you play them?”

Rashmika couldn’t hold back her admiration for Vicky, describing him as looking “like a god” in his portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and applauding his unwavering dedication to the role. Vicky, in turn, expressed his excitement about taking on another action-packed film, noting that it had been seven years since his blockbuster hit Uri: The Surgical Strike, and he had eagerly awaited the opportunity to tackle such a demanding role again.
About Chhaava
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava is a period drama featuring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, and Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb. The film is set to hit screens on February 14, 2025.
The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. The movie will feature music composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman. Cinematography is handled by Saurabh Goswami, while the editing is managed by Manish Pradhan.
