Urmila Matondkar and Mohsin Akhtar were married for eight years.
Actress Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband, businessman-model Mohsin Akhtar Mir, according to Hindustan Times. The couple, who were married for eight years, have decided to part ways. A source close to the couple told Hindustan Times, “After much thought, Urmila has chosen to end her marriage with Mohsin and has already filed for divorce. While the reason for their separation remains unclear, the divorce is not mutual.”
In March 2016, Urmila surprised fans and the media by announcing her wedding to Mohsin, a Kashmiri businessman and model. The wedding took place in Mumbai, with famous fashion designer Manish Malhotra, a close friend of Urmila, one of the few Bollywood personalities present. The couple first visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, following it up with a nikah.
The couple reportedly crossed paths at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2014. Their initial meeting sparked a quiet romance. Despite the considerable nine-year age gap and their religions, the couple is said to have connected over their shared interests, and they gradually began dating.
Following their wedding, Urmila and Mohsin maintained a relatively low profile, occasionally appearing together at events or sharing glimpses of their life on social media.
Urmila Matondkar ventured into politics in 2019, joining the Indian National Congress, and later in 2020, she became a part of the Shiv Sena. On the screen, her last appearance was in the song Bewafa Beauty from the 2018 film Blackmail. She also took on the role of a judge for a kids’ dance reality show on TV. Mohsin Akhtar Mir, meanwhile, is involved in Kashmiri embroidery and craftsmanship, and he collaborates with designer Manish Malhotra’s fashion label.
The couple often celebrated milestones together, with Urmila posting pictures on social media, expressing her love and admiration for her husband.
For those unfamiliar, Mohsin Akhtar Mir was also an aspiring actor, with appearances in films like Luck By Chance and B.A. Pass, among others.
